Any idea what a mail washer error would be? I get this when I turn off my pc. It comes up with error:
VWIN32(05)+000012D0 Error:0E:0028:C024A44A8
When I look it up it says Mail WAsher Pro corrupt files or it's first alert service. There is no other explanation as to what it is or how to get rid of it. I did a scan on the drives and there are no viruses or errors on the disks or windows etc.
I get rid of one error and end up with another!

Yeah, that was attached to the same sentence about mail washer. What is first alert? The whole sentence for that error was Mail Washer pro corrupt files or it's first alert service.....

I think the newer version of adaware was part of my problem. I downloaded it last week and when I run it, it comes up with 100's of files to get rid of but when I go to next to get rid of them, it says I have to reboot to get rid of all of them. When I hit next to reboot, it brings up two internet explorer sessions asking me to download a web search tool. I got rid of adaware just now and those two screens don't come up anymore. I tried stinger but that wants me to register and pay before it will delete anything. Any other ad tools I can use that are free and actually work???

I would download adaware again (download.com has it - they also have spybot) and it sounds like you may have had some other program named Stinger. Get the correct one here: http://vil.nai.com/vil/Stinger/

After you got those, reboot in safe mode (press F8 while booting - press it a whole bunch if you're not sure when), and then run those three programs. Keep in mind that Stinger has no update feature so it needs to be re-downloaded everytime they update it. The above site lists the update date - currently 09/28/2004.

My former co-worker now has an entire website devoted to his security info - http://securitytango.com/. Links to software are under 'Let's Dance'.

Thanks for your help....will try them out on my next days off. I did download adaware again and it seems to be a bit better. Something is still sending me those internet pop up windows though for tool bars. I have no clue where they are coming from.

I installed the virus program that Jon gave me and it found a virus in the reboot.exe file. Got rid of that and will see how my pc works now. Thanks Jon....just shows that the online scans are worthless. I tried a few of them and they found nothing.
