Any ideas on this problem....a friend at work has this happening to his pc:
The motherboard is baked, and deep fried. One day i came home and the pc was off, so i turned it back on and it powered up and then powered right back down about 3 seconds later and that's about all it will do now. replaced the power supply no good and pc doesn't stay alive long enough to check bios or even boot into windows. the scariest part is that when it powers down it stays down until you unplug it for about a minute and then plug it back in. then it powers up and drops again.

He thought it was the motherboard also and put a pc on layaway....he'll get a better one then he had....unfortunately, he thinks it's compaq!
I'll tell him about newegg.com but the places he checked said they were no longer made. Thanks!

he's going to keep it and try to use parts eventually so it won't be compaq any longer! He said his wife won't let him build his own for some reason!
